Online seminar successful - Further topics planned

16.07.2020

Our online seminar on the topic "In-the-ear sensor for vital monitoring" yesterday morning was a complete success. The speakers Dr. Martin Schädel, business unit manager MOEMS and Dr. Martin Jahn, project manager in the MOEMS department, presented an optical sensor which - integrated in an earmould - can evaluate blood pressure changes of each individual heartbeat.

In addition to other important parameters such as heart rate, heart rate variability and blood oxygen saturation, measured blood pressure changes are determined by algorithms also developed at the CiS Research Institute. The patented method is based solely on the data of the optical in-ear sensor and thus offers a possibility for monitoring important vital parameters suitable for everyday use.

After a technical overview of photoplethysmography (PPG), the measuring principle of the ear sensor, the participants could convince themselves of the functionality of the sensor system in a live demonstration. Questions about the advantages of in-the-ear measurement in comparison to fingerclip measurement or which specific applications are conceivable in the most diverse areas were also discussed in the concluding discussion round.

Further topics concerning our developments and current research results are in the planning stage. Be curious!
