Active diamond-based scanning probes for quantum metrology and nanofabrication
German title: | Aktive Rastersonden auf Diamantbasis für die Quantenmetrologie und Nanofabrikation
Acronym: | DiaTip | |
Duration: | 1st February 2023 - 31st January 2026
Description: | A cost-efficient manufacturing process for diamond tips is developed, as well as a production-suitable assembly process for joining the two advanced components "active microcantilever" and "diamond tip". The special material properties of diamond allow the adjustment of various properties of the diamond tips. For example, due to its high hardness, a dimensionally stable hollow tip can be created which also has high electrical conductivity. By introducing nitrogen defect centers ("NV centers") and implementing optical components to excite these color centers and read out the fluorescence response, a magnetic field sensitive sensor is created. The specific diamond synthesis and modification allows the fabrication of a multifunction diamond tip. In the project, demonstrators are developed, integrated into devices for scanning probe microscopy methods and tested on the basis of specific applications at associated industrial partners. The CiS Research Institute is responsible for the subproject "Active diamond-based scanning probes for QUANTUM metrology and nanofabrication - development of hybrid assembly methods.
