On May 21, 2025, State Secretary for Economic Affairs Mario Suckert from the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture, and Rural Areas visited the CiS Research Institute. The focus was on forward-looking topics such as application-oriented research for the use of quantum technologies and hydrogen, the use of artificial intelligence, and specific sensor technology in a variety of markets. Thomas Brock, Managing Director of the CiS Research Institute, presented current research results and their application in industry. Using the example of a traction sensor, he explained to the guests the advantages of using this sensor for monitoring belt tension on long conveyor belts and reducing maintenance intervals.
We are a member of the German Industrial Research Association Konrad Zuse e.V., which represents the interests of non-profit, privately organized research institutions in Germany. As a business-oriented research institution, the CiS Research Institute primarily supports medium-sized companies in successfully implementing innovative ideas. SMEs benefit from the use of research capacities, technological infrastructure, and often accompanying project financing, which reduces the financial risk for SMEs when developing innovative products. This requires reliable funding conditions, sufficient funding for the processing of funded projects and investments, and affordable energy prices.
After the subsequent tour of our institute, the State Secretary for Economic Affairs was very impressed by the innovative capacity and the contribution of applied research to medium-sized companies. He also assured that he would continue to support business-oriented research institutions in the future.
