Temperature sensor with optical coupling
For the use of sensor systems under extreme conditions, such as in EMC-critical or Ex-protected areas, a galvanic connection of the sensors for energy supply or signal transmission is often not possible.
Together with industrial partners, the application center microoptical systems of the CiS research institute developed a solution compatible with existing fieldbus systems. Here, the active sensors for a wide range of physical measured variables are supplied with the required operating energy via an optical fiber interface and the measured values are transmitted to the application.
The sensors are controlled by parameterizable sensor islands, each of which can supply 8 sensors and convert the acquired data into the corresponding data telegram for further processing within a fieldbus system.
The coupling to the field bus system is carried out on the physical level, depending on the application, either electrically or via fiber optic cable.
The extremely power-saving data acquisition system is based on the use of micropower ICs, photonic energy distributors in semiconductor technology and fiber optic transmitting elements with high efficiency.
