For the past three years, the CiS Research Institute has been participating in the innovative regional growth core “Virtual Product and Process Optimization” funded by the BMBF. The research topic of the growth core is the digitalization of the product life cycle, a decisive competitive factor in the future.
The three subprojects “Product Optimization”, “Process Optimization” and “Digital Twin” deal with the design and optimization of laser material processing systems, the optimization of additive manufacturing of design-relevant components in plastics and with the product life cycle on the basis of sensor networks and correlation models.
In the “Product Optimization” subproject, the CiS Research Institute has worked with project partners to design a workflow that includes the development from simulation to manufacturing of application-specific sensors and their deployment in a demonstrator. Further work focuses on the coupling of mechanical, thermal, optical and semiconductor-physical simulation tools.
The aim of the sub-project “Digital Twin” is to develop a workflow (rotating bending test machine for determining the material life of shafts) for generating a digital twin of rotating machines. Here, measurements of mechanical stresses and sensor data transmission on rotating systems are the focus of the research. Another important project result is a workflow for the generation of coupled sensor models and extraction of model parameters with coupling of semiconductor physical and mechanical calculations.
These investigations find application, for example, in the estimation of the service life of rotating components subject to high mechanical loads.
The illustrations show the model of a flexure test specimen with integrated sensor for mechanical stresses from left to right in overview and in increasing magnification in the area of the sensor. The contact area between shaft and sensor element is created parametrically.
The project partners will present their current results at the virtual VIPO symposium on 08.04.2022. Further info: www.vipo-net.de/symposium2022/
