With his photo “Aufgewundenes Licht” (Wound Light), our colleague Bernd Sprenger won third place in this year’s “NanObjectives 5.0” photo competition. His photo, taken with a scanning electron microscope at 100x magnification, shows a coiled filament in a standard household light bulb.
We warmly congratulate our colleague Bernd Sprenger on his success.
On June 25, 2025, the winners of the NanObjectives photo competition were honored in Ilmenau, where more than 50 exciting entries were submitted. Every two years, the Förderverein für Mikro- und Nanotechnologien Ilmenau e.V. (Ilmenau Association for Micro- and Nanotechnologies) awards prizes for images related to micro- and nanostructures or objects. The fascinating photos inspire experts and amaze laypeople alike. They provide a glimpse into tiny structures, surfaces, cells, etc., which would otherwise remain hidden from the human eye.
