In the course of digitalization, the demand for sensors is increasing worldwide. As an interface to the environment, sensors measure, control and regulate processes in everyday life, automobiles, research, industry, communication, agriculture or medicine. The 11th EASS conference will be held in Erfurt on July 5 and 6 and will focus on the resource-saving development of energy-autonomous sensor systems (EASS) and their networking. Dr. Klaus Ettrich, business unit manager MEMS, represents the CiS Research Institute in the program committee and will lead the session “Sensors” together with Stefan Leidich, Robert Bosch GmbH.
With the presentation “Monitoring of fasteners using silicon strain gauges”, Dr. Thomas Frank, head of the MEMS department at the CiS Research Institute, will present technology platforms on the basis of which preload force and the operating force as well as their change over time can be determined. Miniaturized silicon strain gauges are arranged as Wheatstone’s measuring bridge via a mounting carrier and mounted on a screw head. Optimal packaging guarantees hermetically sealed encapsulation and universal interfaces that allow the measurement signal processing and output to be integrated into the user’s measurement system.
In the accompanying poster session, our colleague Dr. Ingo Tobehn-Steinhäuser will present a paper on “Redundant Temperature Sensor Technology for Battery Monitoring”. To improve the operational reliability of sensor systems, the principle of redundancy is applied. The CiS Research Institute is developing a diversified redundant sensor system for temperature measurement, consisting of an optimized semiconductor diode and an industrially manufactured platinum resistance thermometer.
The program of the first conference day also includes a tour of the CiS Research Institute, which will take place after the lectures. Here, interested participants will be introduced to the range of solid-state analysis methods offered by the CiS Analytics Competence Center.
