The German Physical Society is responsible for the implementation of the “International Year of Quantum Science and Technology” in Germany and is offering a wide range of events and activities under the motto “Quantum2025 – 100 years are just the beginning…”. The official opening of the Quantum Year 2025 takes place today in Berlin.
Physicists began researching the fundamentals of quantum mechanics 100 years ago. Today, we can theoretically describe and control quantum phenomena in many areas of physics (mechanics, atomic physics, optics, electrical engineering, thermodynamics). A key goal of the Quantum Year 2025 is not only to understand these phenomena theoretically and control them technically, but also to research how we can make them usable for society in the next 100 years.
On 26 April 2023, the German government published the Quantum Technologies Action Plan and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched the Quantum Systems research program in this context.
The CiS Research Institute is very actively involved in several joint projects in this program. We are researching special quantum sensors and heterogeneous assembly and integration processes for quantum computers. The declared aim is to expand our technical expertise in this field in order to prepare ourselves for the future challenges of industrial use of quantum technology.
