From September 20–22, 2026, international researchers discussed topics such as Josephson contacts and networks, cryogenic sensors and detectors, superconducting qubits, cryogenic system components, and their applications at the “KRYO 2026” conference. The CiS Research Institute was represented with two presentations.
During the Electronics/Metrology session on September 22, Prof. Thomas Ortlepp, Managing Director of the CiS Research Institute, gave a presentation titled “Superconducting Circuit Design Guidelines for Single-Flux-Quantum Logic.” In his talk, he explained a cell library for superconducting single-flux-quantum electronics, which was jointly developed by the CiS Research Institute for Microsensors and the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies. The design rules for circuit design were presented at the conference to enable young scientists in the field of quantum electronics to develop their own circuits quickly and accurately.
As part of the FLUXONICS Foundry this technology is being offered as a pilot line for superconducting quantum electronics. The CiS Research Institute is providing support for the design, while the Leibniz IPHT is supplying the manufacturing technology.
Lukas Barthelmann, a researcher at the CiS Research Institute, will introduce the new CryoMAG-RX research project during the subsequent poster session. Measuring cryogenic temperatures using cost-effective and reliable temperature sensors is a fundamental prerequisite for new industrial applications. Various properties of in-house-fabricated semiconductor resistors and silicon diodes will be experimentally investigated and compared with conventional Pt1000 resistance thermometers in the temperature range from 4.2 K to 300 K. The measurement techniques and setup to be used will also be presented.
The “Cryogenic Components” scientific conference series has been held for more than 40 years and is being organized this year by the Technical University of Ilmenau.
The research and development work described here was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of the CryoMAG-RX research project.
