Two important innovations from the CiS Research Institute were ceremoniously honored at the Ilmenau University of Technology on 12 December 2024. In the presence of representatives from business, science and politics, scientists Dr. Thomas Frank and Dr. Hans-Georg Ortlepp received the coveted iENA Inventor Medals for two groundbreaking developments that they presented at the 2024 International Trade Fair “Ideas – Inventions – Innovations” in Nuremberg.
The inventors were honored for two significant innovations:
- Gold medal for precise blood pressure sensor: The non-invasive sensor enables convenient long-term monitoring of vital parameters and opens up new perspectives in cardiovascular diagnostics.
- Bronze medal for innovative measuring system: The screw sensor offers a new type of force measurement on mechanical components that can significantly improve safety and efficiency in various industrial sectors – from wind turbines to complex industrial systems.
The iENA in Nuremberg, which took place from 26th-28th October, is an important global meeting place for inventors, entrepreneurs and technology enthusiasts. This year, innovators from around 30 countries presented their pioneering developments. These awards underline the outstanding innovative strength of the CiS Research Institute and its importance for technological progress in various application areas.

The award event was organized and carried out by the Research Institute for Inventor Promotion, Innovation and Network Management (ERiNET), the Thuringia State Patent Centre and the Thuringian exploitation network PATON-PTH.
