In-ear sensor for monitoring vital parameters and biofeedback therapy

24. October 2013/in Medical technology, MOEMS

The basis of the biofeedback system is the analysis of vital parameters measured in the external auditory canal. Sensors determine the optical density of the rhythmically perfused tissue. This allows conclusions to be drawn about local blood flow and the systems regulating blood flow. These include, above all, cardiac activity, respiration and thermoregulation, which in turn are under the influence of the autonomic nervous system

What comes after the Higgs boson? – The FAIR experiment as a new challenge for CiS

10. October 2013/in Medical technology, Silicon Detectors, Simulation & Design

The search for the Higgs boson is one of the most important tasks of the world’s largest particle accelerator, the LHC, which went into operation in 2008. This is because the Higgs boson was considered the last piece of the puzzle in the established Standard Model of particle physics. When the Higgs boson was discovered at CERN, detectors from the CiS Research Institute were also involved. These radiation detectors are robust enough to withstand the extreme radiation loads in the immediate vicinity of the collision point (4-20 cm), i.e. inside the detection instruments

Advanced UV for Life

22. July 2013/in Medical technology, MOEMS, Silicon Detectors, UV

“Advanced UV for Life” – this is the name of the consortium that will open up innovative applications of UV light in medicine, water treatment, production technology and sensor technology in the future. The interdisciplinary consortium of 8 research institutions and 14 industrial companies is one of the 10 winners in the Twenty20 competition, which is part of the high-tech strategy of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). This was announced by Federal Minister Johanna Wanka at a press conference

Multisensor technology supports diagnosis and therapy of normal-tension glaucoma

15. April 2013/in Medical technology, MOEMS

The time-synchronous measurement of ECG and PPG should enable the screening of vascular dysregulation with a good sensitivity and, above all, a very high specificity. By using modern low-power electronics and resource-saving technologies of microsystems engineering, a solution was created that enables mobile monitoring of vital parameters, e.g. in outpatient use

Innovations from Thuringia – Silicon-based radiation detectors in search of dark matter

9. April 2013/in Silicon Detectors

After the discovery of the Higgs elementary particle in 2012, CERN researchers are snatching more secrets from space. With radiation detectors from the CiS Research Institute, new clues have been discovered in the search for dark matter. Scientists and engineers at CiS Forschungsinstitut für Mikrosensorik und Photovoltaik GmbH work in Erfurt on highly specialized silicon detectors for the international nuclear research elite at CERN (Geneva)
