For the investigation of vascular dysregulation, the CiS Research Institute together with aviant GmbH from Jena developed a multisensory solution that can record ECG and photoplethysmographic parameters time-synchronously
The developed sensor contains four channels, each with an excitation LED, optical filters and detectors for measuring light transmission and fluorescence. The channels are designed to cover a wide range of the visible spectrum and can therefore be used for the detection of many different substances
The basis of the biofeedback system is the analysis of vital parameters measured in the external auditory canal. Sensors determine the optical density of the rhythmically perfused tissue. This allows conclusions to be drawn about local blood flow and the systems regulating blood flow. These include, above all, cardiac activity, respiration and thermoregulation, which in turn are under the influence of the autonomic nervous system
The search for the Higgs boson is one of the most important tasks of the world’s largest particle accelerator, the LHC, which went into operation in 2008. This is because the Higgs boson was considered the last piece of the puzzle in the established Standard Model of particle physics. When the Higgs boson was discovered at CERN, detectors from the CiS Research Institute were also involved. These radiation detectors are robust enough to withstand the extreme radiation loads in the immediate vicinity of the collision point (4-20 cm), i.e. inside the detection instruments

CiS has developed a method that allows biocompatibility to be evaluated while the experiment is still in progress.
