Also this year a committed team of the CiS Research Institute participated in the 21-day campaign “City Cycling”. The aim of the competition is to cycle as many everyday routes as possible in a climate-friendly way during the event – and every kilometer counts. For every 1,000 kilometers ridden, the Environmental and Nature Conservation Office of the state capital Erfurt donates a tree.
“The goal was to create at least the kilometers for one tree as a team! That’s how we contribute to a city worth living in,” Dominik Karolewski, team captain and research assistant at the CiS Research Institute, explains the motivation for city cycling. From September 10 to 30, the 13-member team covered more than 1,500 kilometers by bicycle and thus won a tree. The trees won by all participating city cycling teams are planted during the Forest Rescue Week of the Erfurt-Willrode Forestry Office.
