One of Asia’s leading trade fairs and conferences for sensor technology, measurement technology, and IoT solutions took place this week in Shanghai. From 16th to 18th September 2026, international experts gathered at Sensor China to foster dialogue and collaboration between European and Chinese players in the sensor and IoT industries. The CiS Research Institute was represented at this annual event with a conference presentation and an exhibition booth.
The sensor industry in China has evolved to become significantly more sophisticated than it was ten years ago. Sensors are now required in a wide variety of fields: humanoid robots, all types of drones, the aerospace industry, and machinery used in China’s own semiconductor industry.
Prof. Thomas Ortlepp, Managing Director of the CiS Research Institute, gave a presentation at one of the accompanying conferences titled “Advanced Optical Position Sensing for High-Demand Semiconductor Equipment” and introduced new solutions for high-precision optical position measurement in machines for the semiconductor industry.
At a joint booth with the Nanjing Smart Sensor Institute in Nanjing, the CiS Research Institute showcased new technologies and sensors, including:
- miniaturized microchannel coolers for active CMOS pixel sensors in high-energy physics, which can significantly increase the frame rate
- silicon-based optical photodiodes that operate in the spectral range from 200 to 1100 nm depending on the sensor application and can be freely configured in terms of contour, size, and segmentation
- a selection of various double-sided radiation detectors for a wide range of requirements in high-energy physics experiments
After a large number of exhibitors from China, Germany is the second-largest nation represented at the international trade show.
